Kosmonaut

Along the tour, while biking through a residential area of Berlin we came across this beautiful, larger than life art overlooking Kreuzberg. It is one of the biggest stencil drawings in the world. The artist intentionally allowed the paint to drip creating a very lifelike affect. At many angles the effect of the drip makes the astronaut appear to be floating out towards you. The astronaut doesn’t actually have a real name. Interestingly, our bike tour guide says east of the Berlin wall it is known as the Astronaut and in the west it is known as the Kosmonaut. Although Berlin continues to transform, the title difference demonstrates how much of a lasting impact the wall had on the culture of Berlin.
